Jenson Button sells soul to McLaren and other post-season updates…
November 23rd, 2009Only weeks after winning the Drivers’ Championship with Brawn GP, the team that helped Jenson Button finally achieve the top award in F1, Button has decided to join Lewis Hamilton at McLaren-Mercedes. How’s that for loyalty? It is no secret that I do not support McLaren. I am a Ferrari fan and you just can’t like both. For you Twilight fans, it’s like Team Edward v. Team Jacob. You have to pick a side.
You're welcome. And no, that is not Mark Sanchez.
Least meaningful F1 race of the year
November 3rd, 2009Here is a bit of a recap of the last F1 race of the season. ..
This weekend F1 went to Abu Dhabi for the inaugural GP at the Yas Marina Circuit. Before I get into the race, a bit about Yas Marina. It is an incredible display of extravagance and opulence. The track is built on an island which is the beginning of a $1 trillion development project and centered around the 5 star Yas Marina Hotel, the first hotel in the world to actually span a race track. The hotel is essentially covered by a massive grid shell made up of more than 5300 glass panels that are equipped with LED technology, because really, if you have something that immense it is so much better if you can display light shows that can be seen for miles on it.

Can you really trust a guy with those eyebrows and that hair? The answer is no, but he's a hell of a driver.
2009 saw yet another significant controversy surrounding Fernando Alonso come to light. In 2007, when the McLaren team consisted of Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, Hamilton was the up and coming star of the team. In what became known as “Spygate” or “Stephneygate,” McLaren’s chief designer, Mike Coughlan, obtained secret technical information from the Ferrari team through former Ferrari chief engineer Nigel Stepney (hence “Stepneygate,” creative ones aren’t they). After significant investigations the case was closed.

October 18th, 2009In what was easily the most exciting GP of the season, Mark Webber won easily for just his second career victory. But that career mark was far overshadowed by Jenson Button and Brawn GP clinching both the Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors’ Championship, respectively.

Fairly self-explanatory.
Brazilian GP Preview
October 18th, 2009Rainy Brazil.
Mark Webber had a Friday great practice session after turning his failure of a Japanese GP to a testing session testing new nose wings for his teammate Vettel. Mark Webber, dreamy and a good teammate. Vettel, as mentioned previously is in engine-conservation mode.
In the Speed’s recap of the 1st practice session we see Felipe Massa on the Ferrari sidelines, great to see him doing well after his terrifying accident during the 2nd round of qualifying for the Hungarian GP. This past week Massa was back and testing in the 2007 Ferrari and will waive the checkered flag for this year’s Brazilian GP, since he’s Brazilian it seems like a good fit. Despite Massa’s desire to race the final race this year, Ferrari has confirmed that he will not. This is a huge relief for me, as a Massa fan, because I would hate to see him come back too soon when neither he nor Ferrari are contending for any sort of championship. Plus, I like that Giancarlo Fisichella (the Italian driver who stepped Massa for Ferrari staring in Monza) is getting a few more races racing for his dream team. Fisichella will stick with Ferrari next season as a test driver.

October 16th, 2009(Editors Note: We’d like to welcome Claire Fraser to SoD – she’ll be expanding your horizons with coverage of F1. You’ll like it. And if you don’t…there will be consequences)
SoD has graciously opened its doors to a little bit of car racing. No, we won’t be discussing NASCAR, we are sticking to F1. Call it pretentious, but that’s how it is. (Quick shout out to Mark Martin! Old guys rule! Ok, done with that). Read the rest of this entry “
